Being involved in corporate entertainment is not as easy as most people might think, especially when it comes down to sourcing a great corporate band or function band. The main problem occurs as there seems to be a total lack of professional acts that can perform live and to the standard required.

For an event to be a success it will come down to careful planning. However, there is always one element that is taken out of the organisers hands, which generally tends to be the entertainment. This is why there are literally a handful of bands within this level of the business that appear time and time again on the corporate circuit and generally command a premium price for it. At this level no one can run risk of trying out an untested group.

If you think about it, the whole week has been carefully planned. There have been briefs and meetings, themes agreed, structured with consideration to all aspect of sound, lighting and video. The catering has been meticulously prepared. The whole event is running to plan and everyone is ready to let their hair down for the highlight of the event. The DJ has everyone on the dance floor ready for the show as they introduce the act to a thunderous applause, and then it’s out of your hands.

There may be times when you may feel your interest in playing start to wane a little bit. There are a number of things you can do to get back on track.

Take a week off. This doesn’t mean to fiddle with your guitar five minutes a day. Don’t touch your guitar for the entire week. When you pick it up again, it will feel and sound better than ever. Plus, you’ll find that you have a number of new ideas to try or you may hear a song that you’d really like to play.

Find new music to play. It’s easy than ever to find guitar music. And if you can’t find something, take a song you’ve already learned and play it in a different way. The song you learned to finger pick will sound quite different when being strummed.

Put together some loops / backing tracks to play with. You can find background tracks fairly easily online. In some cases, there will be a small fee to join a website. If you find a website that you like, make sure they have a good selection of loops and backing tracks to choose from.
