Anthony Flint - violin

Of British-Russian parentage, Anthony Flint first performed in public with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra as soloist at the age of 11 and at 16 made his North American debut with the Montreal Symphony, performing the Beethoven Concerto. After commencing studies with first Robert Colman in England and then a further five years with David Mankovitz in Toronto, Canada, he went to the United States where he completed the graduate programme in performance with the highest distinction at Bloomington, Indiana University music school. During this time, he studied under James Buswell, Franco Gulli and Joseph Gingold. In this same period, he was asked to be concertmaster for the orchestra of Giancarlo Menotti at the festival of two worlds in Spoleto, Italy.
His career has since provided him with the opportunity to lead many orchestras for extended periods of time all over the world such as the West Deutsches Ründfunk, Cologne, the English National Opera, London, the BBC Scottish, Glasgow, the Orquestra dos Estados Sao Paulo, Brazil, the Orchestra of Illinois, Chicago, the Gülbenkian Orchestra, Lisbon, the CJRT Orchestra, Toronto and the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, Zurich.
Combined with this activity, he has made many solo appearances and has performed extensively as chamber musician, bringing interpretations to audiences together with internationally famous musicians including Vladimir Viardo, Jean Bernard Pommier, Bruno Pasquier, Yuri Bashmet and Wolfgang Boettcher. In Canada, Anthony Flint was violinist of the Toronto Kammertrio.He has always sought to specialize in this repertoire, a fundamental motivation for his most recent collaboration in the newly formed ensemble Trio Ceresio, which is based in Lugano, Switzerland
Concertmaster of the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana in Ticino since 1989, he plays on a violin by Carlo Antonio Testore 1712, an instrument that once belonged to the famous virtuoso, August Wilhelmji.

Nato a Londra, Anthony Flint è vincitore di vari primi premi, incluso la borsa ‘Wilfred Bain Memorial Award’ dall’Università dell’Indiana, dove ha pure ottenuto i suoi titoli di laurea. Da giovane trascorse sei estate in Umbria al Festival dei Due Mondi con Giancarlo Menotti. Un concertmaster di orchestre celebri in tutto il mondo, Anthony Flint è stato invitato a collaborare come spalla con,tra le quali, la B.B.C. Radio Scottish, Glasgow, il Westdeutsches Rundfunk , Colonia, l’Orchestra Gulbenkian ,Lisboa, la Zurich Kammerorchester, la English National Opera, Londra e in America con l’Orchestra of Illinois, Chicago, la CJRT Radio Orchestra a Toronto e l’Orchestra dos Estados Sao Paulo in Brasile. Come solista e musicista da camera si è esibito in vari festival in Europa, America e in Asia. Attualmente è primo violino di spalla dell’Orchestra della Svizzera italiana , un posto che occupa dal 1989.
